Ogun State Unveils Safe Schools Response Team After Oyo Kidnappings

Ogun State Unveils Safe Schools Response Team After Oyo Kidnappings — 1 of 4
1 / 4

In Iperu, Ogun State, the government has launched a multi-agency Safe Schools Response Team following the May 15 abduction of 39 students and seven teachers in Oyo State’s Oriire LGA. Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the initiative during Eid-el-Kabir, citing rising school kidnappings and security threats in neighbouring states. The team combines So-Safe Corps, Amotekun, local hunters and vigilantes to patrol and protect schools across Ogun. Operatives will begin deployment immediately and receive stipends to support their work. This effort aligns with the Federal Government’s National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre, established in February 2023 to strengthen security at schools nationwide.
