Obalende Residents Urge Sanwo-Olu to Halt Sewage Discharge into Ikoyi Canal
Concerned motorists, traders and residents around P & T roundabout, Moloney Street and Obalende Road in Ikoyi have appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Environment and the local government chairman to stop public toilet operators from dumping waste into the Obalende canal. They say toilet operators at the BRT bus park, near the mosque and Neighborhood Watch office have been releasing human waste directly into the canal and gutters, causing foul odours and environmental pollution day and night. Residents warn that the practice could trigger a disease outbreak like cholera. They call on the state government to intervene, enforce proper disposal with waste trucks and hold offenders accountable before public health is endangered.
