Spain Coach Defends Lamine Yamal, Says His Best Days Are Ahead

Spain Coach Defends Lamine Yamal, Says His Best Days Are Ahead — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente praised the remarkable growth of 18-year-old Lamine Yamal since his Spain debut. He highlighted Yamal’s speed, resilience and growing influence on the team. De la Fuente acknowledged the teenager’s brilliance but insisted Yamal is not yet at his peak. “He is much better than two years ago, but still not as good as he will be in another two,” he said. Concerns over player workload and injuries have come from Barcelona fans, especially after Gavi’s ACL setback and Yamal’s pubalgia flare-up. De la Fuente responded that the national staff carefully protect every player, regardless of club. “My responsibility is to field the best team to win,” he added. “Barça players face the same demands as those from Madrid or Atlético. Their presence here is great news for Spanish football.”

With de la Fuente praising Yamal's growth, how do you think his role will evolve in Spain's tactics over the next year?

I agree, his confidence and dribbling skills should earn him more key minutes out wide, maybe even centrally.

I agree, he'll probably take on more creative freedom, shaping attacks with his dribbling and vision in key areas.

It's impressive that an 18-year-old is already quick and resilient, but calling him not at his peak yet feels like safe coach speak.

Sure, speed and resilience sound great but relying on an 18-year-old to influence high-stakes matches feels a bit premature.

He's still developing, so Spain could manage his minutes carefully and pair him with experienced teammates for guidance on the field.
