Edo NOA Director Urges Strict Enforcement of HIV Anti-Stigma Law
Osahon Woghiren, Edo State Director of the National Orientation Agency, has called for full enforcement of the HIV/AIDS Anti-Stigma and Discrimination Act. He spoke during an advocacy visit by health NGOs in Benin City and said strong implementation of the law would curb stigma against people living with HIV, TB and other communicable diseases. Woghiren urged similar protections for those with other illnesses. He noted that many Nigerians avoid testing for fear of discrimination. With proper enforcement, patients can seek treatment without hiding their diagnosis. The visiting NGOs outlined a Community-Led Monitoring project under the Global Fund to boost grassroots education on testing, patient rights and gender-based violence response. Woghiren pledged NOA’s support to promote free HIV, TB and malaria services across Edo State communities.
