Single Parenting in Nigeria: Unseen Challenges and Real Strength
Single parenting often extends beyond financial strain or physical exhaustion. It shapes a child’s identity, emotional growth, and sense of security. The absence of one parent can leave gaps in discipline, affection, and worldview. A single parent may face burnout from serving as provider, teacher, disciplinarian, and emotional support all at once. Children may wrestle with feelings of abandonment or insecurity. Despite the risks, many children raised by single parents grow into disciplined and compassionate adults. We need to support healthy parenting structures and offer stronger community, emotional, and spiritual backing to those raising children alone.
