EFCC Chief Warns Nigerian Universities Must Embrace AI to Curb Corruption

EFCC Chief Warns Nigerian Universities Must Embrace AI to Curb Corruption

The EFCC Chairman has urged Nigerian universities to adopt Artificial Intelligence as a vital defence against corruption in higher education. He highlighted issues like inflated contracts, ghost workers and fee diversion that erode trust and undermine the training of ethical professionals. AI tools such as fraud detection, automated auditing, payroll verification and procurement monitoring can strengthen financial accountability. The EFCC’s own use of AI in “Operation Eagle Flush” led to hundreds of arrests in 2024. Key steps include establishing AI governance committees, investing in digital infrastructure, partnering with the EFCC for training, and developing an AI Code of Ethics. He stressed that technology’s success still relies on human integrity.
