Atiku, Kwankwaso and Obi Lead Massive Protest to INEC Headquarters

Atiku, Kwankwaso and Obi Lead Massive Protest to INEC Headquarters — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Governor Peter Obi led a massive protest to the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday. They were joined by Rauf Aregbesola, Aminu Tambuwal, Dino Melaye, David Mark and other ADC leaders and supporters. The opposition party accused INEC of aligning with the ruling APC to block its candidates in the 2027 elections. INEC denied the claim and said it was acting in accordance with the law. The crisis in the ADC escalated when INEC removed the names of National Chairman David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola from its portal. The commission said it acted on a Court of Appeal ruling amid a leadership dispute. INEC confirmed it received competing letters from both factions and pledged to abide strictly by the Court of Appeal’s orders in resolving the party’s internal dispute.

What do you think motivated Atiku, Kwankwaso, and Obi to lead such a large protest to the INEC headquarters?

Are you curious if their protest was driven more by election fairness concerns or broader political aims?

It's interesting that several prominent politicians joined this demonstration, but I wonder if their protest will change any INEC procedures.

I'm not sure a mass protest outside INEC headquarters will address the deeper issues of electoral reform in Nigeria.

Engagement with local voter groups and sustained dialogue with INEC officials could complement protests and push for lasting electoral improvements.
