FirstPower Intensifies Anambra Safety Drive Against Power Line Encroachment
FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company has stepped up safety sensitization across Anambra State to stop trading and building under high-tension lines. Teams visited Aroma Junction and Eke Awka Market to warn traders, landlords and developers about the dangers of occupying 66KV, 33KV and 11KV right-of-ways. The Head of Health, Safety and Environment explained that snapped or sagging cables during storms or accidents pose grave risks. He urged violators to maintain a minimum 5.5-metre clearance from power lines to avoid shocks, equipment damage and outages. Some traders complied on the spot, while others said they lack alternative sites. FirstPower officers also appealed to local planning authorities for enforcement. They reminded residents that corridors were compensated before installation and that continued violations could lead to disconnections under NEMSA regulations. The campaign runs state-wide under the approval of the company’s MD/CEO and NEMSA safety guidelines.
