RSUTH Boosts Ebola Detection and Response with Strategic Preparedness Drills
Rivers State University Teaching Hospital has stepped up measures to detect and contain suspected Ebola cases. A high-level strategic session at the Infectious Disease Unit brought together doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists and emergency response teams. Infection prevention expert Prof. Ibinabo Obolo led a review of standard operating procedures for screening, isolation, case management and safe referrals. She stressed early detection, rapid response and strict compliance with infection control protocols. Dr. Ekele Amadi Robert provided insights on Ebola epidemiology, clinical management and warning signs. The facility’s isolation units and emergency supplies are fully equipped and ready for deployment. The hospital’s IPC Committee reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing training, simulation drills and partnerships with the Rivers State Ministry of Health. A public awareness drive was also launched to urge residents to practice good hygiene and seek prompt medical attention for fever or unexplained bleeding.
