Ogun Police Crack Down on Car Theft Ring, Recover Stolen Corolla and Arrest Three Suspects
The Ogun State Police Anti-Robbery Squad has arrested three suspected members of a vehicle theft syndicate in separate intelligence-led operations around Abeokuta. The first raid followed a distress call of an attempted robbery in Obantoko on May 22. Armed men tried to seize a resident’s Toyota Corolla. A struggle with neighbours caused the suspects to lose control and crash the car into a fence. Investigators recovered a mobile phone and bank ATM card at the scene that helped identify one suspect, who was arrested days later. Further analysis led detectives to another member believed to be the syndicate leader in Ibadan. The suspects confessed to multiple car thefts across Ogun State, using altered ignition systems. In a related operation, police also tracked and arrested a fourth suspect in Osiele and recovered another stolen Corolla from the same gang. The Commissioner of Police praised the officers’ professionalism and said the command remains committed to combating violent crime and vehicle theft. All arrested suspects will be charged to court after investigations conclude.
