Only Lagos Social Housing Tenants Pay Solar Installation Permit Fees, Clarifies Sanwo-Olu’s Aide
Lagos State clarifies permit rules for solar installations in its social housing estates. Wale Ajetunmobi, the governor’s senior media aide, explained that adding a solar power system counts as an alteration to the original design of state-owned homes. Tenants must obtain an alteration permit and pay administrative fees before installation. The Ministry of Housing’s Physical Planning and Survey departments must approve all external changes. Enforcement officers from the Monitoring and Compliance Unit conduct inspections to ensure guidelines are followed. Solar installations in privately owned homes do not require these fees. Only residents in state-owned social housing estates pay for alteration permits.
