Soludo vs Obi: Anambra’s Education Showdown in Teacher Recruitment
While roads dominate the headlines, the real contest for Anambra’s future is unfolding in our classrooms. Both Peter Obi and Charles Soludo have launched ambitious education reforms that deserve close examination. Under Peter Obi (2006–2014), mission schools were returned to mission control and about 4,000 teachers were hired, with a focus on science and ICT to support a widespread computer distribution program. Since 2022, Governor Soludo has pursued free public education and recruited 8,115 teachers in just four years. His drive eliminated many “schools without teachers” and brought the student-to-teacher ratio down to around 26:1, meeting international benchmarks.
