Why Peter Obi Should Embrace Direct Primaries to Secure That Ticket
Direct primaries are a welcome amendment to our electoral law. They deepen grassroots participation and force candidates to meet voters at their level. Peter Obi need not fear this system any longer. He can rally his organic followers to win his party’s nomination. Yet his strong base remains in the South East and he must still appeal to voters in most states of the federation. The NDC has few registered members outside the Obidient and Kwankwassai circles. That slim membership spread could favour Obi—unless a contender like Kwankwasso emerges in the North to challenge him.
