Makinde Tells FG to Stop Misleading Nigerians on State Police
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has urged the Federal Government to stop deceiving Nigerians over the creation of State Police. He noted that the Southwest governors set up the Amotekun Corps only after efforts to secure State Police failed. Makinde said Amotekun was a stopgap measure and urged the FG to empower state assemblies to legislate for their own police forces. The governor highlighted how all Southwest Houses of Assembly, except Lagos, passed the law establishing Amotekun. He called on the Federal Government to give state legislators the authority and support to create State Police without waiting on the Nigeria Police Force.
