From Public School to LAUTECH’s Best Graduating Student: Olugbenga’s Inspiring Journey

From Public School to LAUTECH’s Best Graduating Student: Olugbenga’s Inspiring Journey

Born into a modest family in Osun State, Oladepo Caleb Olugbenga attended public primary and secondary schools because private education was beyond his family’s means. Despite walking miles to class and struggling daily for food and clothing, he earned a place in LAUTECH’s Engineering program. Through five years of hardship—relying on a classmate’s gifted smartphone, occasional support from compassionate lecturers, and crucial funding from NELFUND—he graduated with a First Class and emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student among 137 peers with flawless 4.89 CGPA. In his own words, “Acknowledging what helped one’s journey is neither propaganda nor misplaced allegiance; it is simply an act of appreciation.” His testimony sparked applause and debate online, and since then, several organisations have extended offers to him. In recognition of his achievement and gratitude to the nation’s student loan fund, the President has announced he will confer a national honour on Olugbenga at a ceremony on April 28.
