Jacobo’s Struggle in a Culture of Indifference

It was a hazy, quiet day. Nothing seemed unusual until something stirred in the air. At the center stood Jacobo. Despite the unsettling mood, he smiled and braced himself for whatever would follow. Jacobo had struggled since his grandfather’s death. His grandfather had been a wealthy trader, farmer, and tailor. When Jacobo’s father was absent, he took on every responsibility at a young age. After primary school, Jacobo moved to the city with his father’s help. He taught himself and his determination won him a scholarship abroad, where he spent eighteen years.
