Team Nigeria’s track and field athletes will kick off a three-week training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland on July 2 as part of final preparations for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria unveiled the 29-strong squad after an initial training stint in Abuja. The camp in Scotland will join athletes from multiple sports for their last phase of high-altitude conditioning. Two-time Commonwealth hurdles champion Tobi Amusan leads the athletics contingent, joined by medal hopefuls Ese Brume, Favour Ashe, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and other established stars alongside emerging talents across sprints, jumps and throws. The Nigeria Sports Commission says this training programme will sharpen the squad’s performance and boost medal prospects in Glasgow.

Training in Scotland's cooler climate might disrupt the athletes' acclimatisation to Glasgow's conditions later this summer.

Overseas camps are overrated; local high-altitude facilities could build stamina just as effectively without the extra travel.

Team Nigeria should incorporate simulated race days into the camp schedule to fine-tune start techniques and recovery routines.
