I Saw a Pregnant Ugandan Woman Die in a South African Hospital Because of Xenophobia
In 2014, I witnessed a tragic scene in a South African hospital. A pregnant Ugandan woman was denied care simply because of her nationality. A local woman even blocked doctors from treating her, and the patient lost her life. This incident shattered my perception of South Africa. I realized hostility there extends beyond Nigerians to all Africans. Ironically, white South Africans showed me the most kindness during my stay. After what I saw, I urge fellow Africans to reconsider living in the country.
