Nigerian Navy Nabs Five Stowaways on India-Bound Vessel
The Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT intercepted five suspected stowaways concealed in the rudder compartment of the merchant vessel MV Chinafrie Happiness as it prepared to sail for India from Lagos’ Tin Can Island Port. The men, aged between 24 and 43, were discovered on June 17, safely evacuated and handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for profiling. Investigations revealed they boarded the ship illegally while it was berthed, aiming to travel without authorization. Commodore Aiwuyor Aliu urged parents, guardians and community leaders to discourage youth from risking their lives through unlawful attempts at irregular migration. The operation highlights ongoing collaboration between the navy and other security agencies to curb illegal migration and strengthen maritime safety and national security.
