Havertz’s Last-Gasp Strike Secures Narrow Arsenal Win in Lisbon

Havertz’s Last-Gasp Strike Secures Narrow Arsenal Win in Lisbon

Arsenal clinched a crucial first-leg lead in their Champions League semi-final with a stoppage-time goal from Kai Havertz. Gabriel Martinelli’s build-up play set up the German forward for a composed finish in the first minute of added time. The Gunners had faced a stern test in Portugal. Sporting’s organised defence and a VAR intervention denied Arsenal an earlier opener. David Raya made several vital saves, including tipping Maxi Araújo’s effort onto the bar and denying Geny Catamo. Arsenal dominated possession and delivered numerous crosses, but struggled to break down Sporting’s back five. In midfield, Declan Rice controlled proceedings as Martin Ødegaard and Noni Madueke probed for openings. Late pressure finally paid off when Havertz struck, giving Arsenal hope ahead of the return leg.

How do you think Havertz's stoppage-time goal will affect Arsenal's confidence heading into the second leg?

That late strike will surely boost Arsenal's belief, they can carry that momentum into the second leg.

It's a boost, sure, but let's not overplay it; overall performance across the full match will matter more.

It's odd how one moment of brilliance can overshadow a whole match's defensive frailties, even from a team as strong as Arsenal.

I'm not convinced a single late goal makes Arsenal favorites yet; consistency over 90 minutes matters more in a semi-final.

Arsenal should tighten up at the back and avoid giving opponents room in stoppage time before heading to the Emirates.
