Michael Eneramo Dies After Collapsing During Kaduna Training Match

Former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo has died at age 40 after collapsing during a casual training match in Kaduna’s Ungwan Yelwa area. Witnesses report he completed a full first half without any issues. Minutes into the second half, he slumped and was rushed to a nearby medical facility but was pronounced dead on arrival. Eneramo enjoyed a successful club career with Espérance de Tunis before moving on to Turkish sides Beşiktaş, Sivasspor and İstanbul Başakşehir. He earned 10 caps and scored three goals for the Super Eagles, including a debut strike in a 2010 World Cup qualifier against Tunisia. The Nigerian football community is in mourning after losing one of its most respected forwards, whose goal-scoring exploits remain fondly remembered.

Was any medical screening done recently that might have flagged a hidden issue?

I'm not convinced there's enough info to assume no prior issues played a role.

It seems odd he showed no signs of distress during that first half, only to slump just minutes into the second.

While tragic, sudden collapses can happen even in casual settings, so blaming the match's informality might oversimplify the issue.

Teams should ensure qualified medical personnel and emergency equipment are on standby, even during informal training matches, to prevent similar tragedies.
