Governor Soludo Appoints Tobechukwu Nweke SAN as Anambra’s Attorney General
Governor Charles Soludo has named Senior Advocate of Nigeria Tobechukwu Nweke as the new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Anambra State. The announcement was made on 24th March 2026, marking the first time in 20 years that an SAN holds this office. A native of Nsugbe in Anambra East LGA, Nweke earned his law degree from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus in 2008 and was called to the bar in 2009. He began his career at Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu SAN & Co. in Abuja, rising to managing solicitor by 2013 and handling landmark cases that shaped Nigerian jurisprudence. An accomplished arbitrator, he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and holds certificates in project risk management from Oxford and contract law from Harvard. He also earned an LLM from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. In September 2024, at age 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest Senior Advocates. Before this appointment, Nweke served as Special Adviser on Legal Matters to the governor since 2022. Many observers praise Soludo’s choice as merit-based and reflective of Nweke’s legal excellence.
