Kano Governor Orders Probe of Former Head of Service Over ₦1.5bn Salary Deductions

Kano Governor Orders Probe of Former Head of Service Over ₦1.5bn Salary Deductions

The Kano State Governor has directed an investigation into allegations that ₦1.5 billion was wrongly deducted from workers’ salaries by the former Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa. He announced the probe during the International Workers’ Day celebration at Sani Abacha Stadium. The governor emphasised his commitment to transparency and vowed to protect civil servants’ earnings. Yusuf also pledged to clear the remaining ₦16 billion in retirees’ gratuities and death benefits before his term ends in 2027. He noted that ₦32 billion has already been paid from the ₦48 billion backlog inherited from the previous administration. The Kano chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress commended the governor’s prompt salary payments. It urged a review of pay disparities between state and local government workers.

Has anyone seen evidence on how the salary deductions were calculated, and what reactions this probe will spark among state workers?

What specific breakdown or documents show how they arrived at that ₦1.5bn deduction?

We might be jumping ahead; we don't even know the probe's scope yet, so speculating on calculations seems premature.

It's interesting that the probe comes right after Workers' Day celebrations, raising questions about timing and political motives behind the governor's decision.

This might just be a publicity stunt unless the investigation actually leads to clear accountability for those salary cuts.

Workers should track any updates on the probe and demand transparent reports to ensure these alleged ₦1.5bn deductions are addressed properly.
