Businessman Sues Ex-Fiancée’s Father for ₦260K Dowry Refund

A Kano businessman has approached Shari’a Court II in Kaduna demanding the return of ₦250,000 dowry and ₦10,000 introduction fees paid to his former fiancée’s father. His lawyer told the court that after sending envoys to formally propose, the wedding was cancelled without any refund. Despite repeated requests since September 2025 and three trips from Kano to Kaduna, the money has not been returned. The complainant is now asking the court to order the defendant to repay the full ₦260,000 and an additional ₦250,000 for wasted time and legal costs. The defendant insists the funds are ready and claims the marriage was called off by the businessman. The judge has adjourned the matter to June 17 for the defence to present witnesses.
