Bare-Chested Showdown in Awka: Mmanwụ Beats Martins in Street Sprint
A lively bare-chested race took place at Paradise Hostel, off St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Awka. Two young men, nicknamed Mmanwụ and Martins, challenged each other to a sprint test. The contest began with both men racing 100 meters to a pile of chippings, grabbing some stones, and racing back to the start. Martins charged ahead early, but Mmanwụ’s stamina and coordination helped him pull ahead at the critical turning point. Spectators cheered and laughed as Mmanwụ crossed the finish line first, clutching his chippings in triumph. Martins struggled to keep pace, exhausted by the sprint and unable to gather stones as required. The crowd erupted in playful banter and applause. After accepting defeat, Martins vowed a rematch. The next edition is set for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the same spot, with a cash prize on the line.
