PSG Beat Aston Villa 2-1 to Win UEFA Super Cup

Paris Saint-Germain beat Aston Villa 2-1 at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg to win the UEFA Super Cup. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG the lead in the 20th minute after a pass from Désiré Doué. Villa responded in first-half stoppage time, as 17-year-old Brian Madjo headed in John McGinn's cross to level the score. Doué scored the decisive goal in the 61st minute after a VAR review overturned an initial offside decision. Aston Villa pressed for a late equaliser, but PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov and the defence held on for the win. The result gives Luis Enrique's side another European trophy, while Villa will take encouragement from a competitive performance against the Champions League winners.

Villa responding through 17-year-old Brian Madjo before the break made this sound far more competitive than a routine final.

A 2-1 scoreline is a deserved trophy win, but it does not automatically mean PSG dominated Aston Villa throughout.
