FG Greenlights VAR Technology and Anti-Doping Lab at MKO Abiola Stadium
The Federal Government has approved the installation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology and an anti-doping laboratory at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja. The National Sports Commission announced the development in a recent statement on its official X page. This is part of a wider national sports infrastructure overhaul. Upgrades will include revamped tracks, improved floodlights, modern media and athlete facilities, and the construction of a new High Performance Centre. Further plans cover training pitches, a 200-room athletes’ hostel converted into a hotel, and enhanced medical facilities with state-of-the-art equipment. A dedicated sports centre will provide office space for all sports federations. The initiative also funds mini sports centres nationwide and new facilities at tertiary institutions to boost grassroots and school sports. The NSC says these investments will drive youth empowerment, economic growth, talent development, and national unity.
