Pastors, Prophecies and Politics: Lessons from the 2023 Election
One of the most troubling aspects of the 2023 election was the surge of political prophecies from the pulpit. Pastors who should point people to Christ became campaign promoters. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome said an angel revealed the winner’s name in Scripture. Many then assumed heaven had endorsed Peter Obi. Yet shepherds must not turn sermons into political platforms. Scripture itself warns against false prophets. Jeremiah 23:21 reminds us that God does not speak through every self-appointed messenger. When predictions fail, faith suffers deeper damage than any political loss. As 2027 approaches, the Church must reclaim its true purpose. The pulpit belongs to Christ, not to political ambition.
