Everton 3-0 Chelsea: Blues’ Champions League Hopes Dented

Everton 3-0 Chelsea: Blues’ Champions League Hopes Dented — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Chelsea’s bid to reach next season’s Champions League suffered a major setback with a 3-0 defeat at Everton. It is back-to-back Premier League losses for the Blues after last weekend’s 1-0 reverse to Newcastle. They have now gone four games without a win in all competitions. Everton’s Portuguese forward Beto opened the scoring in the 33rd minute and added a second on 62 minutes, set up by a lung-bursting run from Idrissa Gana Gueye. Senegalese international Iliman Ndiaye wrapped up the rout with a composed finish in the 75th minute. The victory lifts Everton to seventh on 46 points. Chelsea remain sixth with 48 points and face an uphill battle to secure a top-four finish.

It's harsh to blame just the defence when their attack barely threatened Everton all afternoon.

Maybe a midfield reshuffle could spark some energy, bringing a creative player back in might restore their Champions League hopes.
