Abuja Court Hears Cleric Admit Praying for Coup Plot but Warning It Would Fail
At the Federal High Court in Abuja, judges viewed a video statement from Sheikh Sani Abdulkadir, the sixth defendant in the alleged coup plot against President Tinubu. In the recording, the cleric said he received money to pray for the operation’s success but warned the plotters their plan was doomed. He claimed an insider would sabotage the coup and that two people would expose those involved. Defense lawyers challenged the admissibility of six defendants’ statements, citing coercion and lack of legal representation. The prosecution argued all evidence could be considered together. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled on a joint trial-within-trial for all disputed statements and adjourned the case to May 12.
