Gov. Makinde Enforces Nighttime Ban on Okada Operations in Oyo State
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has signed Executive Order No. 002 of 2026 to strengthen security and manage traffic statewide. Under the new order, commercial motorcycle services (okada) are prohibited from operating between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. This follows growing fears after 46 pupils and teachers were abducted in Oriire Local Government on May 15. The governor assured residents that every effort is underway to secure the captives’ safe return. He emphasized that restricting okada movement is one of several measures, which also include strict vehicle registration checks, to curb crime and protect communities. Makinde urged citizens not to mistake public silence for inaction, noting sensitive operations are ongoing with all relevant security agencies.
