2026 World Cup Shocks: 10 Former Heavyweights Missing Out

At least ten former World Cup nations will sit out the 2026 finals. Cameroon and Nigeria both fell in the African playoffs, while DR Congo claimed one of the coveted spots. Europe’s Italy, Denmark and Poland bowed out in playoff finals. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic and Sweden took their places. South America will be without Chile, Peru and Bolivia, who lost 2-1 to Iraq in an intercontinental playoff. Asia’s China and North America’s Costa Rica also failed to qualify.
