Olympafrica Centre Opens in Lagos to Revive Grassroots Sports
A new chapter in Nigeria’s sporting future began with the official unveiling of the Olympafrica Centre in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos. The multi-billion naira complex marks a long-awaited investment in discovering and nurturing young talent across the country. The facility offers modern indoor halls for karate, taekwondo, wrestling and weightlifting alongside outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball and tennis. A football pitch with a running track, male and female changing rooms and a pavilion make it a comprehensive training hub for growing athletes. Plans are under way to develop a residential estate on 60% of the 6.7-hectare site, ensuring the centre remains active year-round through training programmes, community events and competitions. Officials hope this sustained use will produce the next generation of Nigerian athletes for the Olympics and other global championships.
