IGP Disu Restructures Police Monitoring Unit to Strengthen Discipline and Accountability
The Inspector-General of Police has approved a reform of the Police Monitoring Unit to boost operational effectiveness and reinforce discipline across the force. The unit has been streamlined to focus on proactive monitoring, intelligence-driven inspections and real-time oversight of personnel and operations. Key investigative and monitoring functions are now harmonised under a new framework aligned with ongoing institutional reforms. Deputy Commissioner Aliyu Abubakar has been appointed head of the restructured team. With his background in state criminal investigations and modern policing techniques, he is expected to ensure greater transparency, enforce standards and identify operational lapses at all levels.
