Uganda Cracks Down on Irregular Migration, Arrests 62 Nigerians among 231 Foreign Nationals
The Ugandan Ministry of Internal Affairs has arrested over 231 undocumented migrants after two intelligence-led operations in Adjumani and Kampala on April 27, 2026. Among those detained are 62 Nigerian nationals alleged to have run a church and other activities without valid work permits. They are now facing prosecution under Uganda’s immigration laws, with possible fines, deportation and blacklisting. Authorities also rounded up 169 other foreign nationals in a Kampala suburb. They include citizens of Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Ghana, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Malaysia, 36 of whom are women. The ministry urges landlords to verify the immigration status of foreign tenants and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring all foreign residents comply with national regulations.
