Federal High Court Schedules April 29 Arraignment for Ohiri Over Alleged Cyberstalking of Minister Umahi

Federal High Court Schedules April 29 Arraignment for Ohiri Over Alleged Cyberstalking of Minister Umahi

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the arraignment of Tracynither Ohiri to April 29. Ohiri is accused of cyberstalking and defamation against the Minister of Works, David Umahi. The prosecution told the court that investigators spent several days in Lagos serving Ohiri with charges but could not reach her. The judge had warned on April 16 that he might strike out the case if the defendant was not produced. Ohiri faces a 13-count charge filed under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024. Allegations include false video publications on TikTok and social media accusing the minister of threats, sexual coercion, and financial wrongdoing. The case, numbered FHC/ABJ/CR/172/2026, was filed on March 31 by the police’s Directorate of Legal Services in Abuja.

How do you think this cyberstalking case against Ohiri will affect public trust in online defamation laws here?

I agree, a transparent trial could strengthen faith in our online defamation laws.

Come on, I doubt one trial will shift public trust that much. Folks need to see steady, fair enforcement.

It's striking that investigators spent so much time on digital forensics before arraignment, yet the hearing date got pushed back anyway.

I'm not convinced we should wait until April 29 to discuss accountability; transparency begins the moment charges are filed.

Tracking next steps: mark the calendar for the arraignment and review anti-cyberstalking guidelines in case legal reform follows.
