Opposition Rift: How Breakaways Strengthen Tinubu’s Re-election Bid
I do not know how to tell these political gladiators that repeating a losing strategy will not yield a different result. A divided opposition means the ruling party will be re-elected. Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso’s departure from the ADC coalition, and Bala Mohammed’s switch to APM, have weakened the alliance meant to unseat the ruling party. Blaming only the president ignores the responsibility of those who left. Tinubu’s rhetoric on insecurity targets the core North, signalling he no longer values that region for 2027. Meanwhile, the opposition fractures just as they should be mobilising the North’s large voter base. If these leaders cannot agree, how can they govern a nation fractured by corruption and mistrust? The opposition must unite and work with northern voters as kingmakers, not power grabbers.
