Senegal and Ivory Coast Fans Denied US Entry for 2026 World Cup, Sparking Outrage
Social media erupted after reports that Senegalese and Ivorian supporters were refused visas for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States. Official fan delegations from Senegal and Ivory Coast cancelled their trips after visa rejections under U.S. immigration measures, including elements of Presidential Proclamation 10998. Around 500 Ivorian fans were affected. A Somali referee, set to be the first from his country at a World Cup, was also denied entry despite valid papers and FIFA credentials and removed from the tournament roster. Fans slammed the host’s policies as exclusionary and called on FIFA to ensure future tournaments live up to a truly global ideal.
