Unfinished Roads in Bauchi: 4 Key Questions for M.A. Abubakar’s Comeback Bid
Former Governor M.A. Abubakar is reportedly eyeing the 2027 Bauchi governorship with backing from a federal minister. However, his 2015–2019 tenure saw multiple major road contracts stalled or abandoned. Four flagship projects—Itas-Atafowa-Magarya, Azare-Isawa-Giade-Kurba-Basirka Phase II, Hanafari-Jurara-Garin Baban-Sabon Kafi-Dogon Jeji, and Udybo-Gamawa—received billions in funding but registered physical completion rates between 5% and 30%. Payments exceeded actual work by hundreds of millions of naira in each case. Before presenting any new vision, the former governor must explain where the unaccounted funds went, who benefited from the overpayments, and why these critical roads were left unfinished. Bauchi voters deserve answers before the next democratic choice.
