Ogun Deputy Governor Calls for Stronger Protection Against Violence Towards Doctors
Ogun State Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele has called for stronger protection for doctors and other healthcare workers, citing growing concerns about verbal abuse, threats and physical attacks in hospitals. Speaking at the 2026 Nigerian Medical Association Ogun AGM in Abeokuta, she proposed improved security at health facilities, stronger legal safeguards, better communication, staff welfare, public education and closer cooperation among government, hospitals, security agencies and communities. She noted that healthcare workers operate under intense pressure and remain vulnerable to violence. The state government said it would continue investing in health infrastructure, personnel, primary healthcare and affordable services, while NMA leaders urged action to address violence-related brain drain among medical professionals.
