New CPACPI Framework to Transform Community Pharmacies Nationwide
Nigeria’s community pharmacies are set for a major upgrade. A new professional development framework has been officially endorsed by leading health stakeholders. The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria and the Community Pharmacists Assessment and Career Progression Institute led a high-level meeting in Abuja. Attendees included government officials, regulators, WHO representatives, development partners and private sector leaders. The CPACPI framework introduces a five-level career pathway from Community Pharmacist through to Consultant. Progression will depend on measurable outcomes, mentorship and structured appraisals. With proper legislative backing and collaboration with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, local pharmacies could become full primary care hubs. These outlets may soon offer preventive services, maternal health support and reliable health data reporting. Are pharmacists ready, and will the system support this change?
