US Cuts African Visa Centres to 20, Lagos Remains Regional Hub
Thousands of Africans now face higher costs and longer journeys to apply for a US visa. The Trump administration has announced plans to merge almost 50 embassy and consulate visa units into just 20 processing centres across Africa. Under the new arrangement, applicants from countries without a centre will travel to the nearest hub for interviews. This could raise travel expenses and extend waiting times for many. Despite the cuts, US missions in affected nations will still offer consular services for citizens and urgent diplomatic cases. Full visa processing will continue in 20 cities, including Lagos, Nairobi, Accra and Johannesburg.
