Mourinho Takes Turkey to European Court Over Disciplinary Sanctions
José Mourinho has lodged a formal complaint against the Turkish state at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. He is challenging a one-match touchline and dressing room ban plus a 600,000 Turkish Lira fine imposed during his 14-month spell as Fenerbahçe’s coach. The sanctions followed his criticism of a referee and the VAR system after a 3-2 league victory over Trabzonspor. Mourinho claims the Turkish Football Federation’s disciplinary and arbitration boards lacked independence and failed to notify him of a reasoned decision. The ECHR has accepted his application and given Turkey six months to respond.
