Priest Urges Mothers to Embrace True Love, Reject ‘Modern Wife Syndrome’

Priest Urges Mothers to Embrace True Love, Reject ‘Modern Wife Syndrome’

At this year’s Mothering Sunday celebration at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ologo, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ozor reminded mothers of their vital role in shaping family and society under the theme “True Love in Action.” He lamented the rise of what he called “modern wife syndrome,” where women neglect key responsibilities through excessive social outings or hostility toward in-laws. He urged mothers to uphold unity, discipline and moral upbringing in their homes. Fr. Ozor highlighted three core powers of a wife—effective speech, provision of daily meals and marital intimacy—and encouraged faithfulness and respect between spouses. He also advised older women to avoid undue interference, stressing that the stability of society depends on strong, loving families.

Isn't it a bit narrow to suggest mothers alone hold responsibility for society's moral fabric in this modern era?
