Mrs Soludo Urges Women to Use August Meeting to Tackle Gender-Based Violence

The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has urged women across the state to use this year’s August Meeting to address the rising cases of gender-based violence, abuse and neglect of domestic workers, especially housemaids. She said recent reports of assault, starvation, torture and emotional abuse against young domestic helpers should concern every responsible mother. She called on women to move part of their discussions beyond community projects and social activities to practical solutions that can protect vulnerable children. Mrs Soludo also asked women leaders, faith groups and community stakeholders to include child protection, responsible caregiving, conflict resolution and the rights of domestic workers in their deliberations. She said homes should teach empathy, patience and respect for human dignity, not violence.
