Glasgow 2026: Edidiong Umoafia Wins Weightlifting Gold for Nigeria
Edidiong Umoafia has won gold for Team Nigeria in the men’s 71kg weightlifting event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Umoafia lifted 147kg in the snatch and matched the best clean and jerk lift of 172kg, finishing with a winning total of 319kg. Samoa’s John Lautafi Tafi won silver with 314kg, while Nauru’s Ezekiel Moses claimed bronze with 310kg. The victory gives Nigeria its fourth gold medal and eighth medal overall at the Games, with four gold and four silver medals.
