Obioma: Abia Warriors’ CAFCC Dreams Shattered by Kun Khalifat Defeat
Emeka Obioma is Abia Warriors’ top scorer this season with 11 goals. He rued the missed chance to finish in the top three on the final-day table. That spot would have secured a place in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup. The Warriors held third and fourth place for much of the campaign. But a 2-0 loss at home to Kun Khalifat FC in Aba ended their hopes. The defeat dropped them to seventh with 55 points ahead of the last match. Obioma called the result “very unfortunate” and “a painful blow”. He stressed that the team created chances but simply had a bad day. In response to the collapse, club management suspended head coach Imama Amapakabo and assistant Bethel Orji. Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu steps in as interim coach for the final fixture against Warri Wolves on May 24.
