Lagos State Unveils Dates for Akran of Badagry’s 10-Day Burial Rites
The Lagos State Government will hold a ten-day burial ceremony for the late Akran of Badagry, Aholu Menu-Toyi I, from April 23 to May 6. Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, announced a detailed programme to honor the traditional ruler’s legacy. Events will include gun salutes, Iwure prayers, and Ajogan parades across Badagry’s eight quarters on the opening day. A novelty football match at Badagry Grammar School follows on April 24, with community service and medical outreach on April 25. Visiting associations, artisans and business leaders will pay homage between April 26 and 28. The schedule also features inspections of key project sites, interdenominational services, cultural processions and the Akran Legacy Festival at Marina. The final day will honour age-old traditions with Zangbeto masquerades, drumming and Oro rites. Residents are encouraged to take part in these ceremonies, which celebrate the monarch’s enduring impact on culture, leadership and community development.
