CSO Urges AGF and DPP to Reopen Victor Giwa’s Case

A civil society group, Africa Center for Good Governance and Corruption Free Communities, has called on the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Director of Public Prosecution to review the criminal charges against Barrister Victor Giwa and two others. The organization says the matter began as a civil dispute under the previous AGF but was later escalated into a criminal case. Convener Temitope Olubunmi Joseph describes the charges as a witch-hunt and wants a fresh investigation to uncover the truth. An arrest warrant was issued by Justice Samira Bature for Giwa and police officer Edith Erhunmuuse. They face a nine-count charge over an eviction ordered by the FCT High Court, with alleged property damage estimated at ₦300 million. The group insists the eviction order came from the court and urges renewed scrutiny to avoid punishing innocent parties.

I'm wondering what new evidence might prompt the AGF and DPP to reopen Victor Giwa's case. Has anyone spotted key details?

True, any fresh witness account or overlooked document could push AGF and DPP to revisit that case.

True, we need solid new proof, but I'm not convinced there's anything fresh that can sway the AGF.

It seems unusual for a civil society group to challenge prosecutorial discretion without offering specific proof of misconduct or procedural error.

I'm not convinced that calling on the AGF will change anything. Politics often override legal reasoning in such high-profile cases.

Stakeholders should consider gathering fresh affidavits from witnesses and compiling clear procedural breaches before petitioning the AGF and DPP to act.
