ADC Sets April 14 Convention Despite INEC’s Withdrawal of Recognition
The African Democratic Congress has formed a 22-member committee to organise its national convention on April 14. This follows INEC’s decision to no longer recognise Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as party leaders. Former governors Liyel Imoke and Aminu Tambuwal will head the central committee, supported by 11 sub-committees with 339 members. Notable figures include Emeka Ihedioha, Tajudeen Bakare, Solomon Lalong and Ireti Kingibe. ADC’s national publicity secretary accused the electoral commission of partisanship and stressed that convening the convention meets the party’s constitutional requirements. The party argues INEC lacks authority to reinterpret court rulings. Despite looming legal challenges and a deepening leadership crisis, ADC insists its “Amala Convention 2.0” will go ahead on April 14. The real dispute, however, may now shift to the courts.
